,} ^cthe sixth hour, and darkness ^{▼▼ Or occurred}fell over the whole land until ^{▼▼ I.e. 3 p.m.}the ninth hour, 45 ^{▼▼ Lit the sun failing}because the sun was obscured; and ^gthe veil of the temple was torn ^{▼▼ Lit in the middle}in two. 46 And Jesus, ⁱcrying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, ^j into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last. 47 ^kNow when the centurion saw what had happened, he began ^lpraising God, saying, “Certainly this man was ^{▼▼ Lit righteous}innocent.” 48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, ^{▼▼ I.e. as a traditional sign of mourning or contrition
